Parenting | | | Dare to Dream!: 25 Extraordinary Lives by Sandra McLeod Humphrey A collection of 25 brief biographical sketches of ordinary people from all walks of life who overcame great obstacles to attain their extraordinary dreams.
| | | Lesssons in Buoyancy by Kathy Vick Like a cool ocean breeze, Vick gently chides women's sometimes ridiculous efforts to measure up to the Proverbs 31 woman...like we don't have enough pressure in our lives as it is. I think most women have traveled through that self-created pit of comparison--and the subsequent self-loathing for our perceived "lack"--and I found myself cheering the author's honesty and transparency. I also really appreciated her depiction of sequencing in a woman's life--that there truly are seasons to be businesswomen, lovers, artists, mothers--and we don't have to accomplish it all by next Tuesday. This is a great book for the well-meaning overachiever on your list.
| | | 7 Reasons to be Grateful your the mother by Kathy Vick Written by moms, for moms, the Mom2Mom books are vibrant, inspirational, and often humorous reflections on the most difficult job in the world. Each colorful installment reminds moms that they are not alone in the seasonal challenges of motherhood and encourages them to choose an attitude of gratitude. Becoming a step mom is not for sissies. In this candid book, Kathy Vick, a step mom herself, navigates the gravel roads of "blenders" with laughter and grace, in large doses. The question is not why God chose you, Vick reminds moms, but who you can become in the process.
